San Diego County Homebrew Shops

I am gearing up to start homebrewing, finally. In preparation, I mapped out the San Diego County homebrew shops. I plan on visiting each one over the next six months to get a sense of the differences in service, variety, freshness, price, and convenience. While nothing is more convenient than ordering online and having things show up at the door,  I prefer to build personal relationships, especially with knowledge professionals.

When I participated in the Draught Board Homebrew Club (the second oldest homebrew club after Maltose Falcons in LA) we met at a shop that has been around for decades. It was great to see club members buying local after meetings. It was recently purchased by MoreBeer and maintained as a local supply shop, which apparently was an upgrade. My current club, QUAFF, meets at the Karl Strauss Brewery Tasting Room which has a beautiful beer garden perfect for fitting this expansive club. But that makes for a different club experience.
